Essential Oils for Stress

I had a friend once call me a “level 3 hippie” because I used essential oils and was into health and wellness. So if you use essential oils you might be at that level too ;)

I used to talk a lot about essential oils, but haven’t been very vocal about them over the last several years - although I still use them daily and swear by them. I believe they can be part of a healthy lifestyle.

If a well rounded healthy lifestyle is a puzzle, essential oils are one piece. They aren’t as “magical” if the other pieces are missing.

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are made from flower, herb, and tree parts, such as bark, roots, peels, and petals.

The unique aromatic compounds (molecules) that give a plant its fragrant smell are its "essence." When this essence is extracted from a plant, it becomes an essential oil.

Steam distillation is the most common way to extract aromatic compounds (essential oil) from a plant. Expression, sometimes referred to as “cold pressed,” does not involve heat. In this process, oil is extracted from the product under mechanical pressure. Expression is used for citrus oils.

True essential oils aren't blended with other chemicals or fragrances. They are made using a specific process that doesn't change the chemistry of the plant.

stress

It is not uncommon for women to say “I just don’t have time for self care!”

This typically means… they have too much going on and are stressed!

I realize that some things are out of our control and stress is often unavoidable, but the KEY is learning to manage our stress and find things we can use to cope better.

If all we did were plug in a diffuser and breathe in some calming, grounding or uplifting essential oils, we would be supporting our wellbeing in such a simple way!

You might think "why should I care so much about managing my stress?"

Stress can weaken our guts intestinal lining. When our gut lining isn’t working properly undigested food particles can leak into the blood stream (the body sees them as “invaders”) which is what can lead to food sensitivities and other health issues.

There are SO many ways to manage our stress, but we are all unique so some techniques you will like better than others.

What I love about essential oils is that they are easy to use and require little effort on your part.

All you have to do is is drop them in your diffuser, breathe as normal, and let them work their magic to calm the nervous system and reduce your stress.

This is one of my favourite blends below. When I first started getting into essential oils I thought lots of them were funky smelling and couldn’t stand them. Over the years and at different points in my life I have liked certain scents more than others.

This blend below is super basic and isn’t anything you haven’t smelled before..
